Education Defense Pro Bono Project

Description:

The goal of the Education Defense Pro Bono Project is to to ensure that San Mateo County youth entering the juvenile justice system have their educational needs identified and met, and the project aims to improve both their educational outcomes and the outcomes of their juvenile cases.

Law students will work on teams to review the student’s record and then meet with the supervising attorney, Abigail Trillin of SLS’s Youth & Education Law Project, to prepare for their client consultation. After their consultation they will discuss the case at a project team meeting and then get back to the client.

We expect that each member will work a a total of 2 hours per week, with some weeks requiring more (although this will be infrequent). Work will mostly involve reading over student records and engaging with clients to discuss their cases.
