Paul F. Welter is a lawyer and software developer with a focus on law and digital technology. He is leading a research project on Compound AI: Where Logic Meets LLMs as a Fellow at Stanford CodeX. Paul is also the Founder & CEO of bayshore AI and the Co-founder and Ex-Chairman of recode.law.

Paul studied law at the University of Cologne, where he co-founded recode.law, Germany’s leading legal tech student association. As chairman, he expanded the organization nationwide and successfully advocated for a legislative change requiring law schools to offer legal tech courses—an effort that earned him recognition from Parliament and the Ministry of Justice.

After law school, Paul worked on automating M&A processes at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe before completing his legal clerkship with stages at the European Commission (Unit for Digitalization of Justice) and CodeX. At CodeX, he contributed to the development of the CodeX Insurance Adviser and built tools for Stanford’s logic programming language Epilog.
