Biography
Alejandro Romero brings a deep commitment to justice reform and extensive experience in innocence work and international legal education.
Before joining Stanford, Alejandro spent multiple years with the California Innocence Project (CIP) and the University of San Diego School of Law, where he worked on behalf of wrongfully convicted individuals and helped train the next generation of legal advocates. At USD, he coordinated an initiative aimed at mentoring law students in Mexico and strengthening their trial advocacy skills under the country’s relatively new accusatorial criminal justice system.
His dedication to expanding access to justice extends internationally through his leadership in “Inocente,” a nonprofit coalition of over 20 innocence organizations across Latin America. The organization focuses on securing the release of wrongfully convicted people and advancing criminal justice reform throughout the region.
Earlier in his career, Alejandro worked on international policy and diplomacy as a public policy analyst at the Embassy of Mexico in Belgium/EU and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego.
