Art Law Pro Bono Project

Description:

The Stanford Art Law Pro Bono Project engages with the various legal issues facing the artistic community both nationally and globally. Partnering with the Artistic Freedom Initiative (AFI), students will work alongside immigration and human rights attorneys as they help write country reports researching freedom of expression in countries where artists have faced persecution and oppression. The research students conduct will also be used to prepare submissions for Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for submission to the UN Human Rights Council. As part of the partnership with AFI, students will receive training on the international human rights framework for artistic freedom, as well as on UN HRC procedures and UPR submissions.

Commitment:

Students are expected to commit roughly 10-15 hours per quarter to training, research for their assigned projects, and coordination with AFI.
