Catherine Atkin

Biography
Catherine is a climate attorney and entrepreneur working at the intersection of law, policy and innovation to build systems that can accelerate global decarbonization and ensure equitable and sustainable development. In her capacity as a CodeX Fellow, she leads the Climate Data Policy Initiative (CDPI) project. CDPI brings together climate experts, policy makers and technologists to inform the development of climate data policies that will catalyze innovation and action, unlock climate finance, and accelerate scale. The project includes a special focus on how next-gen technologies like blockchain, IoT, and AI can drive climate impact.
Catherine is a recognized leader in climate change and urban sustainability with deep expertise in national and sub-national GHG accounting policies and implementation frameworks. As part of the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub, she co-chairs the Innovations in Carbon Accounting and Climate Action Working Group. She is currently co-editing a book, Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Climate Change Adaptation – Flood Risk Assessment and Green Recovery, to be published by Springer Press. Catherine is also Director and Co-Founder of BlueVista.
She received a BA from Stanford University, a law degree from UC Berkeley School of Law (UCB), and a master’s degree in Urban Planning from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
