Biography
Dirk Hartung is the founder and Executive Director of the Center for Legal Technology and Data Science at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. He is the Co-Academic Director for the Bucerius Summer Program in Legal Technology and Operations and Bucerius Legal Technology Essentials. He develops the technology curriculum for this leading German law school. He is writing a PhD on digital lawyering under unauthorized practice of law regimes. His other research interests include computational and quantitative legal studies with a focus on data science and natural language processing. He is a business analyst at the Bucerius Center for the Legal Profession and a co-author of several high-impact market reports on legal technology and operations by Bucerius Law School and Boston Consulting Group. He (co-)teaches Introduction to Computer Science, Introduction to Data Science, Machine Learning in Law, Hands-on Legal Technology and Contract Law, and supervises theses in both law and computer science. Dirk is a co-founder of the European Legal Tech Association and the Hamburg chapter of Legal Hackers as well as a fellow at CodeX – The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics.
