Ian Schick is a scientist turned Big Law attorney turned legal tech founder. Upon completing a Ph.D. in the hard sciences, he pursued a career in patent law. After about a decade in private practice, Ian co-founded a legal tech company called Specifio, which automatically converts 2-3 pages of attorney-written work product into a first draft patent application at 20-30 pages with basic figures. With the proposed research, Ian’s hope is to inspire other attorneys to pursue document automation in their own practice areas and hasten the spread of machine-generated first draft legal documents across the legal industry.
