Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project
Description:
The DV Pro Bono Project seeks to support survivors of domestic violence by a) providing direct legal services to survivors of domestic violence seeking civil remedies and b) conducting legal research and writing for our partner organization, Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal). We partner with BayLegal to offer clinics throughout the year, as well as research and writing opportunities.
Commitment Required of Members:
We are seeking students who can participate in at least two clinics per quarter. Each clinic will be approximately 4 hours from 1:30-5:30 on Fridays (average clinics do not take the full time, and last only about 2-3 hours). The clinics require minimal to no preparation work. In the clinic, students work with BayLegal attorneys to provide direct legal services to survivors of domestic violence seeking civil remedies. On occasion, legal research and writing opportunities will be available.
All new members must participate in the two Fall Quarter training sessions on September 30, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, and October 10, 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Important: Friday clinics conflict with Prof. Nyarko’s Contracts class for Sections 4 and 5 in the Fall Quarter. 1Ls in those sections will start volunteering in the Winter Quarter, but will be trained in the Fall Quarter
Open Membership Spots: 10
Adv. Degree Student Participation: Yes
Winter Start: Fall start highly preferred (except, because of scheduling, 1Ls in Prof. Nyarko’s sections 4 and 5 Contracts class will be unable to volunteer in the Fall Quarter, but must still participate in Fall Quarter training)

Language Ability Preference: Spanish Language Skills Valued, But Not Required
