Douglas Levin

Biography
Douglas Levin is a technology executive, entrepreneur, board member, and advisor whose work focuses on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, blockchain, and technology strategy. He is an Executive Fellow at Harvard Business School and serves as an Academic Advisor at Stanford Law School, where he taught “AI Priorities for Boards of Directors” at Directors’ College.
Levin has founded or co-founded five companies, including Black Duck Software, where he was founder and first CEO. Black Duck became a leading platform for open source security, license compliance, and code management, and was acquired by Synopsys in 2017. Earlier in his career, Levin held senior management roles at Microsoft and worked as a developer for the Apple Macintosh platform.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of ReversingLabs and advises a number of technology companies. In 2026, he founded Northstar Clarity, an AI strategy and governance advisory firm. He is also the author of “Lessons from a Startup Life.”
Levin holds an advanced degree in International Economics from the Collège d’Europe and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also completed studies at Columbia University, New York University, and MIT.
