Application for Admission to the Visiting Exchange Students Program

Along with their completed applications, students applying to attend Stanford Law School through the Visiting Exchange Students Program must submit the following materials:

  1. Confirmation from their home law school that they have been nominated for the student exchange program;
  2. A resume or curriculum vitae;
  3. A personal statement of no more than two pages describing the student’s reasons for wishing to study at Stanford Law School and any of the student’s important qualities that they would like us to know about;
  4. A TOEFL score report or TOEFL waiver request; and
  5. An official transcript from their home law school (include a certified English translation if applicable).

IMPORTANT: EXCEPT FOR THE OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT, versions must be submitted by the student with their online application form. Students must arrange to have official transcripts from their home law school emailed to the Office of Admissions (Email: Admissions@law.stanford.edu) or mailed to the following address:

The application deadline for incoming exchange students who wish to attend Stanford Law School during the 2026-2027 academic year is Friday, April 3, 2026. Please note that students will be notified of their enrollment status in May 2026.

    • The American Bar Association requires that applicants for admission to law schools be advised to obtain information regarding the requirements for admission to the Bar in the state(s) in which the applicant intends to practice. Please be aware that all states evaluate the moral character and academic accomplishments of applicants for admission to the Bar, and some states require registration before beginning the study of law. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction.

      Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.     • If you are offered admission, Stanford reserves the right to withdraw that offer of admission (even after enrolled attendance) if: 1) you show a significant drop in academic performance or fail to graduate from your current program; 2) there has been a misrepresentation in or a violation of any of the terms of the Stanford Law School (SLS) application process; 3) we learn that you have engaged in behavior prior to the first day of enrolled SLS attendance that indicates a serious lack of judgment or integrity; or 4) you reserve a place in our entering class and make an enrollment commitment or make a deposit at another law school.
