Book Talk with Starbucks Workers United Co-Founder Jaz Brisack

- This event has passed.
Jaz Brisack – author of forthcoming book Get on the Job and Organize: Standing Up for a Better Workplace and a Better World, and a “Next Generation Leader” according to TIME Magazine – is a Truman and Rhodes Scholar who has taken the path less traveled. After earning their masters degree at Oxford University, Brisack got a job as a barista at Starbucks and led the first successful campaign to ever unionize a Starbucks. Their historic win inspired thousands of Starbucks workers across the country to organize their own stores, resulting in the formation of the Starbucks Workers United Union which now represents over 550 stores and counting.
Now, Brisack helps lead the Inside Organizer School, where they have supported young people’s unionization efforts at companies ranging from Ben & Jerry’s to Tesla.
Against the backdrop of billionaire-backed threats to democracy, Brisack’s new book outlines strategies for holding larger-than-life corporations like Starbucks and Tesla accountable to communities by leveraging the power working people have to bring these companies’ profits to a halt through shop floor organizing.
Join Brisack for a lunch talk about the future of American labor law and the labor movement more broadly, and what it means to get on the job and organize our workplaces.
