The Trump administration has, in the space of only two months, materially changed the landscape of immigration policy in the United States. More changes are promised including fundamental alterations to high-skilled worker programs, attention to Dreamers (DACA) beneficiaries granted some leniency under the Obama administration, and an entirely new approach to immigration enforcement both at the border and inside the US. These changes raise a host of complex issues including several that profoundly impact the competitiveness of the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. This panel will focus primarily but not exclusively on the challenges that the Trump administration poses to an economy that relies on highly trained workers to compete in a global environment.
