Her Honor: A Conversation with Judge LaDoris Hazzard Cordell, (Ret.), JD ’74

- This event has passed.
The Stanford Law School Black Alumni Association invites you to join a virtual conversation between Judge LaDoris Hazzard Cordell, (Ret.), JD ’74, the Superior Court of Northern California’s first African American woman judge and SLS BAA Advisory Board Member Irene Oritseweyinmi Joe, JD ’06, Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law on Wednesday, November 3 at 12:00 p.m. PT.
Professor Joe, JD ’06 teaches courses on Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Professional Responsibility. She writes at the intersection of all three of these areas with a special focus on how institutional design affects the way that system actors can manage overwhelming caseloads and comply with ethical requirements. Professor Joe is currently working on a project called Learning from Mistakes, which explores how public defenders respond to the reversals of death row convictions for defendants who passed under their authority. Professor Joe is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Stanford University School of Law.
Judge Cordell’s insights into our legal system and higher education are truly unique; in addition to her historic appointment to the bench, she pioneered Stanford Law School’s minority recruitment efforts as an Assistant Dean and later returned to campus in a University-wide leadership role as Vice Provost. We hope you join us as we learn from her wide range of experiences in and out of the courtroom, as both jurist and advocate.
