Interested in IP, life sciences, angel investing, or all of the above? Join us for a lunch discussion with Darren Cooke, investor at Life Science Angels who works with biotech and medical device companies.

Before diving into full-time early-stage investing last year, Darren led the IP legal team for the $700M/year life science tools business of Bio-Rad Laboratories.  At Bio-Rad, he ran IP diligence and integration on dozens of deals, including Quantalife (digital PCR), GnuBIO (droplet sequencing), and Propel (cell sorter).  He and his team also evaluated every new Bio-Rad invention, filed 400 new patent applications, had 250 US patents issue, and cleared 50+ new products for FTO.  Before Bio-Rad, Darren was a patent litigator at Covington & Burling, and before law school, a mechanical engineer developing surgical tools in the Dept. of Otolaryngology at UCSF.  Darren holds a JD from Columbia Law School, MS in mechanical engineering, UC Berkeley, and BS mechanical engineering, Cal Poly. Darren lives in Orinda with his wife, daughter, large cat, and seven mostly pointless cars
