The Business of Litigation: A Conversation with Katie Trefz and Natasha Zech at Williams & Connolly
Join WSL and APILSA for lunch and a discussion of the business of law firms with two leading women in DC litigation. Katie Trefz is a Partner at Williams & Connolly who focuses her practice on criminal defense and government and internal investigations. She is the Co-Chair of Williams & Connolly’s Internal Investigations practice and handles a range of matters, including securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, violations of anti-trust law, and claims under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Her practice encompasses the highest-stakes litigation across industries, ranging from finance and technology to media and professional sports. She is also a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association. Natasha Zech is the Chief of Attorney Talent at Williams & Connolly and a member of the firm’s Black Attorney and East Asian Attorney affinity groups, and in those roles, manages diversity and inclusion initiatives, associate professional development, and hiring. Katie and Natasha are also both members of Williams & Connolly’s Women’s Initiative.
They will discuss the economics of law firms based on their respective experiences—litigating complex, high-stakes disputes and identifying and training budding litigators on how to thrive in a fast-paced litigation environment. They will also explore how the business of law firms affects students’ recruiting experiences, and how to leverage these insights in building a successful and fulfilling career in litigation, while students will also have an opportunity to ask Katie and Natasha about their own experiences and careers. Lunch will be provided.
