The VRA in Perspective
StanfordVotes, in collaboration with the MLK Institute and the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, is hosting a three-part series on the historical, contemporary, and prospective aspects of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). By contextualizing the Voting Rights Act in its historical roots, reflecting on the impact of current challenges to the VRA, such as the Supreme Court decision in Callais, and exploring what comes next through the eyes of advocates and young organizers, we hope to inspire rigorous, productive discourse about what it means to be civically engaged and why it matters in today’s world.
At this Monday event, hear from Professor Jonathan Gienapp and constitutional lawyer David Walbert about the historical struggle to secure voting rights and the importance of the VRA in protecting Americans’ access to the ballot. Professor Lerone Martin will provide opening remarks.
