The Future of the First Amendment Online
- This event has passed.
Join the Stanford Law & Technology Association (SLATA) and the Stanford Entertainment and Sports Law Association (SESLA) for a conversation with Adam Sieff, a Stanford Law School alum and Partner at Davis Wright Tremaine, where he focuses on media and constitutional litigation.
Adam will discuss his work representing TikTok users and creators in TikTok v. Garland (2025), a landmark First Amendment challenge to a federal statute that would have effectively barred TikTok from operating in the United States. The case raised fundamental questions about whether the government can bar access to platforms used for speech and creative expression, and how the First Amendment limits platform-wide bans justified by national security concerns.
The conversation will also explore the broader landscape of technology and First Amendment law, including age verification requirements (NetChoice v. Bonta), content moderation, social media addiction litigation, and emerging AI harms. Adam will share insights from his practice spanning constitutional law, technology regulation, and civil rights litigation.
