Life in Prison and Criminal Justice Reform with Ear Hustle’s Earlonne Woods

  • This event is archived.

Earlonne Woods, from the acclaimed podcast Ear Hustle, in conversation with Mike Romano, on the future of criminal law reform.

In 1997, Woods was sentenced to life in prison under California’s “Three Strikes” law for attempted second degree robbery. While incarcerated, Woods received his GED, attended college, and co-founded Ear Hustle as the first podcast created and produced in prison, featuring stories of the daily realities of life inside San Quentin State Prison, shared by those living it. In 2018, Woods’ sentence was commuted by then-Governor Jerry Brown, and Ear Hustle has continued to produce podcasts from behind prison walls, earning honors as a Pulitzer Prize finalist and two-time Peabody Award nominee.

Romano is founder of the Stanford Three Strikes Project and chair of the California Committee on Revision of the Penal Code.
