Apply for Student Housing

A variety of on-campus housing options are available for single students, couples, and families. The estimated budget we have provided uses an average cost for housing for a single student; your choices may cost more or less. Housing options at Stanford include dormitories, co-op houses, and apartments. Please review the descriptions and costs carefully in order to select the best options for you.  You can learn about the different housing options available at Stanford and view pictures of them by visiting the Housing website.

Students apply through Axess, using their SUNet ID and password. All new graduate students are guaranteed an assignment by the beginning of school, if they are willing to accept a space in any housing for which they are eligible and if they apply by April 30, 2026. Some choices such as studio and one bedroom apartments are very popular, so you are encouraged to list as many choices as possible in your application. If you choose to live off-campus, you are required to reside in the vicinity of Stanford University. Please carefully review the housing website for important information about applying for housing, and selecting among the various on-campus options.

Housing will be available for LLMs and JSMs beginning in late August. Orientation for LLMs, JSMs, and incoming first year JDs will be Tuesday, August 25, 2026 through Friday, August 28, 2026. You should specify an arrival date in your housing application which will enable you to attend Orientation.

The Housing website has a complete calendar of application and other dates, as well as information about other services related to housing and dining.
