Biography
Judge Karin J. Immergut was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in August 2019. In May 2024, Judge Immergut was appointed to serve on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for a term of seven years. Prior to her appointment to the federal court, Judge Immergut served for ten years as a judge on the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Oregon, presiding over both criminal and civil cases. Before joining the state court bench, Judge Immergut served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon from 2003 to 2009, having previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney both in the District of Oregon (2001-2003) and in the Central District of California (1988-1994). While U.S. Attorney, Judge Immergut served as a member and then chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys from 2004 to 2009. Judge Immergut served as an Associate Independent Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr from May 1998 to October 1998. Judge Immergut began her legal career as a litigation associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, DC. Judge Immergut earned her B.A. from Amherst College in 1982 and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1987.
