Class of 2018 Public Interest Fellows
Our Public Interest Fellows program provides special support to those third-year students who have a history of public service, provide leadership within the law school, and are committed to beginning their careers as lawyers in the public service. The Fellows Program exists to create a community of support for the cohort of students seeking post-graduate public interest jobs during their third-year or post-clerkship and assist them in that endeavor. Levin Center staff provide ongoing tailored career development support to the Fellows, including trainings, panels, and workshops to prepare students for public interest legal careers; and opportunities for intensive mentorship and guidance from staff, alumni and other leading practitioners.
Fellows each drafted brief bios that were posted on-line during their year of service outlining their interests, activities, and experiences. These highlight our Fellows’ experiences and help 1Ls and incoming students see the breadth of opportunities available to public interest students.
The Public Interest Fellows from the Class of 2018 wrote these brief bios during the spring and summer before their 3L year.
Where Are They Now?
“I spent two and a half years as a border litigation attorney with the ACLU of Arizona focused on challenging unconstitutional conditions in immigration detention centers. I now write critical commentary about the Supreme Court.”
– Yvette Borja, JD ’18

“I clerked for Justice Susan Carney of the Alaska Supreme Court immediately following graduation. I fell in love with Fairbanks so much that I decided to stay. I now serve as an elected Assembly Member for our Fairbanks North Star Borough and work as a civil rights attorney representing Tribes and low-income individuals across the State. When not in the office I can be found on the trail with my sled dogs.”
– Savannah Fletcher, JD ’18, Native Law and Civil Rights Attorney

“I work with a wonderful team at a civil rights law firm in San Francisco, Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP. About half of my work is on behalf of people who are incarcerated or on parole, and the other half is a mix that includes, for example, disability rights and employment discrimination.”
– Adrienne (Pon) Harrold, JD ’18, Associate, Rosen, Bien, Galvan & Grunfeld, LLP
“I worked in deportation defense in California for a number of years and have relocated to my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, where I continue to advocate on behalf of immigrants and try to secure their right to stay in the U.S.”
– Haley Millner, JD ’18
Miles is an Attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where he advocates for policies and investments that accelerate transportation electrification and the transition to a smarter, more affordable electric grid powered by renewable resources.
– Miles Muller, JD ’18, Attorney, Natural Resources Defense Council

“I have pursued federal public service through clerking on the Third Circuit and the Attorney General’s Honors Program at DOJ. Now, I maintain a robust pro bono practice, including a successful petition for certiorari to the Supreme Court of the United States in a criminal sentencing case.”
– Chuck Roberts, JD ’18

“I recently pivoted from direct services at legal aid to a private public interest firm where I focus on civil rights issues and class action litigation.”
– Tory Tilton, JD ’18
