Michael is currently a Senior Strategic Advisor and Counsel at the Coalition for Green Capital (CGC), which won a multi-billion-dollar capitalization grant from the federal government in 2024 to serve as a national green bank that will foster and support public and private partnerships to increase private capital investments in clean energy projects, activities, and technologies. Michael is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the New York University School of Law, where he regularly teaches a course on energy law, regulation, and policy, and periodically gives public lectures on pressing legal and policy issues in the energy industry.

In addition, Michael serves on the Board of Advisors for the Institute for Policy Integrity at the New York University School of Law. Prior to joining CGC, Michael was a Partner, Of Counsel, and Associate at Latham & Watkins LLP for 25 years, where he worked in the Project Finance and Energy Regulatory and Markets Groups (and represented CGC on a pro bono basis and served on the founding Board of Directors of the Montgomery County (MD) Green Bank).

While at Latham he worked on a diverse range of cutting-edge transactional, controversy, and counseling matters for the sponsors, developers, and investors in a wide range of energy technologies, products, and services. His clients included entities involved in electric generation (both utility-scale and distributed), transmission, distribution, and energy storage, natural gas transportation, distribution, and storage, electricity and natural gas trading, investment banking, and commercial banking.

Michael earned a JD degree from the New York University School of Law, during which he served as an Articles Editor for the New York University Law Review. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Michael earned a Master of Science degree in applied economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, after which he worked as an economist in the energy industry, including working for an investor-owned utility in New England. Michael earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Environmental Studies at Antioch College.
