Biography
Michael is a JSD candidate at Stanford Law School, supervised by Professor Buzz Thompson. His research spans labor and employment, environmental sustainability, corporate governance, and organizational behavior. Michael’s current focus is on the interdisciplinary study of the impact of collective bargaining clauses aimed at environmental sustainability, known as “green clauses.” His work seeks to enhance understanding of the role of labor agreements in achieving environmental goals.
Before attending Stanford, Michael worked as a union-side labor lawyer in Toronto, Canada. His practice involved advising a diverse client base, which included hotel staff, truckers, journalists, and teachers. His legal work encompassed litigating workplace conflicts, negotiating contracts, and providing representation in professional regulatory matters. This range of experience informs his current academic exploration of broader policy issues in the labor sector.
In his research, Michael applies an interdisciplinary approach, using techniques such as supervised machine learning, qualitative interviews, and content analysis. His doctoral research examines workplace environmental policies, aiming to explore the efficacy of localized legal tools in fostering sustainability.
Michael has presented his research at conferences hosted by the Law and Society Association, the Canadian Industrial Relations Association, and the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, among others. He is also a member of the Bar of Ontario.
