Nicolas Forero Villarreal is a Non-Residential Fellow at the Stanford Law School Neukom Center for the Rule of Law and a law clerk at Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), where he works on cases involving international humanitarian law, human rights, and transitional justice. His work focuses on the role of courts and international law in strengthening democratic institutions, judicial independence, accountability, and transitions from conflict to peace.

Previously, Nicolas clerked at the Constitutional Court of Colombia, where his work included advancing child-friendly justice and strengthening children’s participation and access to justice in constitutional proceedings. He also worked with the Rule of Law Impact Lab on international legal strategies concerning judicial independence and democratic erosion in Latin America, and has advised UNICEF, UNHCR, DCAF, and Colombian public institutions on human rights, migration, child protection, and security-sector governance.

Nicolas is a professor at Universidad de los Andes, where he teaches public international law and has taught a graduate course on the rule of law and judicial independence. He holds a Master of the Science of Law from Stanford Law School, an M.A. in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a Master in International Law and LL.B. from Universidad de los Andes.
