STANFORD, Calif., January 19, 2011—Professor Emeritus William B. Gould, IV who is the  former chairman of the National Labor Relations Board under President Clinton is delivering this speech on collective bargaining in professional baseball, basketball and football to the Orange County Labor and Employment Relations Association at 8 p.m. today.  His remarks offer insight into current collective bargaining in the National Football League as well as the National Basketball Association–the prospects for a lockout looming in each. Gould also discusses what he calls the “ironically pacific” baseball negotiations about to begin. (Gould was chairman of the NLRB during the 1994-95 baseball strike. The NLRB obtained an injunction from now Justice Sonia Sotomayor–then Judge Sotomayor, which ended the strike just before opening day.)
