The American Law Institute (ALI) announced on October 21 that Stanford Law School Professor Jenny S. Martinez has been elected as a new member of the institute. She is one of 72 newly elected members who hail from 22 states, the District of Columbia and three other countries: Australia, Singapore and Switzerland.
ALI members are highly regarded judges, lawyers and law professors who are confidentially nominated by their peers, vetted by ALI’s Membership Committee and elected by the ALI Council. Election of these new members raises ALI’s total number of elected members to 2,827.
Martinez is a professor of law and associate dean for curriculum at Stanford Law School, as well as the Professor of Law and Warren Christopher Professor in the Practice of International Law and Diplomacy. She is a leading expert on international courts and tribunals, international human rights, national security, constitutional law and the laws of war. Her research focuses on the role of courts and tribunals in advancing and protecting human rights.
