With ‘Under Review,’ Stanford Law Expands Its Podcast Lineup to Examine the Future of Law and Business

Stanford Law School has launched a new podcast, Under Review with Alex Su, a monthly offering from the school’s executive education program that provides timely conversations at the intersection of law, business, and academics. Episodes are available free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and other major platforms.

Under Review offers listeners hour-long episodes that focus on the legal profession and the nexus of law and business, with particular attention to the trends and innovations reshaping the industry.

Earlier this year, Stanford Law School Executive Education partnered with the Practising Law Institute (PLI) to create a series of continuing legal education (CLE) programs, all of which are available to practicing lawyers, industry leaders and all graduates of Stanford Law whether or not they are PLI members. The CLE course line-up also serves as the backbone of Under Review

Adam Sterling, Associate Dean of Executive Education and Strategic Partnerships

“This podcast reflects our mission to make Stanford Law’s expertise available as broadly as possible,” said Adam Sterling, associate dean of executive education and strategic partnerships at Stanford Law and the creator of Under Review. As the head of Stanford Law’s Executive Education program, Sterling oversees training and professional development for legal professionals, organizational leaders, and Stanford Law alumni. “By drawing from the robust and timely material developed for our CLE programs, we can provide high-quality insights in a format that’s convenient, engaging, and free.”

Alex Su, Under Review Host

Podcast host Alex Su is the chief revenue officer at Latitude Legal and an executive education fellow at Stanford Law. He has built a national following for his commentary on law and technology, drawing on his experience as a practicing attorney, legal tech executive, and thought leader on industry change. Su noted in the first episode of Under Review that he has long been fascinated by how the legal profession is changing—a theme that drives the conversations on Under Review.

Voices and Ideas

The first episode of Under Review showcased the range of voices and ideas the series will bring to listeners. Divided into three segments, the inaugural episode addressed:

  • Corporate Law Frontiers — Stanford Law’s Robert Bartlett, W. A. Franke Professor of Law and Business, and Columbia Law Professor Eric Talley, two of the nation’s leading corporate law scholars, discussed Delaware’s dominance in corporate governance and how recent changes affect corporate advising, stakeholder protections, and national trends.
  • AI in Legal Education — Lisa Larrimore Ouellette, Deane F. Johnson Professor of Law, explored the promise and pitfalls of using AI to augment legal learning, including her research on whether large language models can replace or assist traditional office hours.
  • Leadership Lessons — Kristin Sverchek, former general counsel and president of Lyft, reflected on her career path, sharing insights on building trust, managing risk, and moving into high-impact leadership roles.

Future episodes will follow the same three-part format, with segments that spotlight new developments, showcase Stanford faculty research, and feature candid conversations with changemakers in the field. Listeners can expect discussions ranging from shifts in the legal job market and the rise of AI in practice to the evolving role of courts. Upcoming guests include Stanford Law School Dean Triantis, Stanford Law professors David Freeman Engstrom, Nora Freeman Engstrom, and Mila Sohoni; and law firm and company legal leaders such as Goodwin’s COO Mary O’Carroll and Zendesk’s CLO Shana Simmons.

Building on a Strong Podcast Tradition

Since 2017, another Stanford Law podcast, Stanford Legal, has brought listeners thoughtful conversations on the legal and policy issues shaping public debate—from constitutional law to criminal justice. The podcast, now co-hosted by Professors Pamela Karlan and Diego Zambrano, features Stanford faculty and other leading voices. Recent episodes have explored “President Trump’s Tariffs and the Separation of Powers at the Supreme Court” with Professor Michael McConnell, a former federal judge, and “Guns, Money, and Mass Shootings” with Professor John Donohue and research fellow Eric Baldwin.
