Professor Petersilia, a leading criminal justice scholar, was approached in 2016 by The Arc, an advocacy organization for people with I/DD, with a request for strategic guidance and policy-relevant research.  In response to the inquiry, Professor Petersilia invited participants in her Sentencing and Corrections class to participate in an informal policy lab on the treatment of individuals with I/DD in the criminal justice system.  The reports below, produced as part of that policy lab, consider a variety of important challenges that persons with I/DD face from arrest through parole.
