This year’s Stanford Bright Award for Environmental Sustainability recipients Gidon Bromberg and Munqeth Mehyar, co-founders of EcoPeace Middle East, came to campus in October to receive the award and discuss their work to bridge a divide in the Middle East through the protection of water resources. EcoPeace brings Palestinian, Jordanian, and Israeli environmentalists together in an effort to rehabilitate the historic Jordan River, even in the face of regional conflict. Established in 2013, Stanford’s Bright Award of $100,000 is given annually to an individual or individuals from one of 10 rotating regions. It was created by an alumnus of the law school, Raymond E. Bright Jr., JD ’59, who was a lifelong conservationist.
