Training the Legal Leaders Who Will Shape the AI Era

“What’s our AI strategy?”

That’s a question that senior attorneys in law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies are increasingly being asked.

To help them answer confidently and strategically, Stanford Law’s Executive Education program has launched a self-paced online course designed to give legal leaders the judgment and technical grounding required for this transformative moment. “AI Strategy for Legal Leaders” draws on insights from a broad group of legal, business, and technology experts who have been working on the ground with generative AI.

Associate Dean for Executive Education Adam Sterling

“Legal leaders are on the hook for AI strategy whether they feel ready or not,” says Adam Sterling, associate dean for executive education. “We built this course to give them the fluency and frameworks they need to speak credibly in the C-suite and to lead, not just react, as AI reshapes their organizations.”

The program digs into how generative models work, where they fail, how to evaluate emerging claims, and what responsible AI strategy should look like. The focus is on helping legal executives separate hype from reality—and translate that understanding into practical, defensible decisions inside fast-moving organizations.

Participants also explore how to help teams experiment safely and how to lead cultural change within legal departments. They have access to a legal-AI platform through which they can investigate these issues in action.

The course comes as Stanford Law School expands other executive education offerings, including a new podcast, Under Review, which highlights emerging issues at the intersection of law, technology, and leadership.
