San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

There are many door-to-door shared-ride van services that provide transportation from the San Francisco airport to Stanford and surrounding areas (Palo Alto, Mountain View, Menlo Park). Reservations are optional. Taxis leave from designated zones outside of the baggage claim areas.

To reach Stanford via public transportation, you can take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from the San Francisco airport to the Millbrae Caltrain station and transfer to the Caltrain to Palo Alto. The free Stanford shuttle, called Marguerite, meets most trains at the Palo Alto station from 6 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Keep in mind that, although the cost is much less, the difficulty of transferring with luggage may make the van service a better alternative. Visit the website for ground transportation from San Francisco International Airport.
