Angels, Assistants & Swords

Among this week’s news and activity of interest to the CodeX community are reports about questionable angels, virtual assistants and swords and scripts.

Fresh Intelligentsia: Angels, Assistants & Swords
Robert Ambroji

First up: Robert Ambrogi has announced that he is building a new list of legal technology startups, and wants our help. He reports, on his LawSites blog, that he had recently posted “that the number of legal startups had nearly tripled in two years,” citing the Angel List roster.

Keith Lee (who will be a panelist at the “Moot Court” session at CodeX FutureLaw) challenged Ambrogi, noting that the list includes companies that no longer exist, and other are not startups, etc. So Ambrogi looked again and whittled the list to “375 actual startups.” His conclusion was that “bad data tells us nothing, positive or negative,” about legal technology startups over the last two years.

So Ambrogi has added a page to his blog, and invites everyone to let him know of companies that are missing. Check out the blog post here.

Karl Chapman, CEO of Riverview Law, announced that the company has launched Virtual Assistants, powered by the company’s “Kim” platform. (He presented the new product at last week’s CodeX meeting.)

Frank Strong, who did a fantastic job running (and often writing) LexisNexis’ Business of Law Blog has decided to “make a go of entrepreneurship” and is opening his marketing and PR agency. Check out Sword and the Script Media.

Speaking of LexisNexis, its Firm Manager practice management software now integreates with QuickBooks Online products.  “The integration synchronizes invoices created in the Firm Manager platform with the law firm accounting books maintained in the QuickBooks Online products,” the press release notes.
