Religious Liberty Clinic Celebrates Successful Academic Year

The Religious Liberty Clinic finished the 2015-16 term with a dynamic string of case victories and lawyering experiences for its students. The clinic won an appeal at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where the court recognized its client’s homeless ministry as a form of federally protected religious expression. The clinic also vindicated the right of a Messianic Jewish client to receive kosher meals while in prison, securing as part of a mediated settlement in that case a favorable regulation change for the provision of religious meals to all inmates in California.

In other matters, RLC students took and defended depositions, appeared in federal and state court, wrote summary-judgment briefs, filed a complaint leading to another successful settlement, and drafted an appellate amicus brief. Every step of the way, the students learned, developed, and employed professional lawyering skills and judgment under the dedicated supervision of clinic faculty and in service to their clients.
