Stanford Center for Racial Justice Appoints Mira Joseph as Research Associate

The Stanford Center for Racial Justice (SCRJ or Center) is excited to announce the appointment of Mira Joseph as Research Associate, effective Sept. 19, 2022. Mira will assist with research related to SCRJ’s ongoing projects, including our Innovation in Community Safety work.
Mira is a 2022 graduate of the University of Chicago and has an extensive background in academic research, as well as a deep commitment to police reform and justice. While at UChicago, Mira was a Sociology major, and wrote a research thesis about gender discrimination in professional chess. She also minored in English and Creative Writing, and spent a quarter abroad at the University of Oxford, studying postcolonial literature and science fiction. Mira received Magna Cum Laude research honors at UChicago and was involved in a number of activities, including Blacklight Magazine, a social advocacy publication where she served as Creative Director; and the Maria Shelter Resource connection, where she advised residents and researched housing, employment, job training, and childcare resources.
Throughout her time in college, Mira interned at organizations working on policing and social advocacy. In the summer of 2020, she interned at the Policing Project at NYU Law, where she worked on policing technology issues and supported the development of a database that catalogs police reform efforts across the nation. The internship inspired her to work on a series of self-guided computational research projects analyzing policing complaints in Chicago. She also spent a summer interning at Paradigm PM, a political and philanthropic consulting firm.
In her free time, Mira enjoys writing science fiction, playing chess, and spending time with her dog.
We are thrilled to welcome Mira to our SCRJ team!
