Law x Climate

As climate and sustainability markets and regulatory environments continue to evolve, the legal profession has a central role to play in shaping new legal frameworks, including the role of leading edge technologies, supporting compliance and managing climate risks. Law x Climate explores the challenges and opportunities facing in-house and outside counsel for companies, public sector lawyers and legal scholars in this dynamic global landscape.

Law x Climate brings together these legal professionals with climate experts, private sector leaders, technologists and policymakers to engage in dialogue, research and analysis on legal issues facing the public and private bar as they:

  • Help clients navigate the regulatory environment, including ensuring compliance and evaluating and managing risk.
  • Create standards and protocols for the application of data science and digital technologies including AI, DLT, and IoT.
  • Develop legal frameworks and policy on market infrastructure including green finance and carbon, clean energy and nature-based credits.
  • Provide transactional and strategic advice to new energy market entrants and climate tech companies.

The project is led by Co-chairs Catherine Atkin (CodeX Fellow) and Michael Schmitz. David J Hayes is the faculty advisor.
