Space Law & Policy Perspectives Submission Guidelines

Introduction

Stanford Space Law & Policy Perspectives (SLPP) is the flagship publication of the Stanford Space Law Society. Launched in 2025, SLPP provides a platform for rigorous analysis and innovative thinking on the legal and policy challenges of humanity’s expansion into space. Our goal is to spark conversations that cross disciplines and borders, connecting the work of scholars, practitioners, and students to the global governance of outer space.

We invite submissions that engage with contemporary debates in space law and policy, ranging from governance of mega-constellations and lunar resource development to international cooperation, security, and sustainability. To learn more about the initiative, we invite you to check out the SLPP launch article here.

Publication Schedule

SLPP is a quarterly publication, with issues released in the fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters of the academic year. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, and authors are encouraged to submit early to be considered for the upcoming issue. In exceptional circumstances, we are also open to publishing articles on an irregular schedule.

Submission Requirements

  • Length: Articles must not exceed 3,500 words (including footnotes).
  • Citation Style: All citations should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, available here.
  • Originality: Submissions must be original and not previously published. Authors may submit their work elsewhere, but must promptly notify SLPP if the piece is accepted for publication by another outlet.
  • Plagiarism: By submitting, authors affirm that their work is their own and free of plagiarism.

AI Policy

  • Use of AI Tools: We do not accept manuscripts that are substantially generated through AI tools. Direct copying, pasting, or paraphrasing of AI-generated text is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a violation of academic integrity. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. We only accept the use of AI tools for research assistance, such as literature research, citation formatting, and limited grammatical editing.
  • Disclosure Requirements: Authors who use AI tools in the writing of a manuscript, production of images, or in the collection and/or analysis of data must disclose such use in an Acknowledgments section. This includes which AI tool was used and how it was used. Standard grammar checkers and citation management software do not require disclosure.
  • Author Responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, even those parts produced by an AI tool. Manuscripts found to violate this policy may be rejected at any stage of the publication process.

Submission Process

All manuscripts should be submitted through our online portal, available here.

Submissions are reviewed continuously, and accepted pieces will be slated for publication in the next available issue. Please note that due to the high volume of submissions, only authors of accepted articles will be notified.

Please note that we do not accept submissions via email.
