Biography
Vincent Grari is an A.I. researcher and a Fully Qualified Actuary at AXA Group Operations. In 2023, he obtained the Best Artificial Intelligence PhD Thesis Award in France from the French Association of Artificial Intelligence (AFIA). During his Ph.D. at the Sorbonne University, he conducted research in fair machine learning. His Ph.D. was entitled “Adversarial Mitigation to Reduce Unwanted Biases in Machine Learning.
His work has led to first-author publications at top-tier venues including IJCAI, ECML PKDD, ICONIP, ICDM and Machine Learning Journal. This technical work was used as the basis to refine fairness guidelines at the European regulator EIOPA. He has also directly collaborated with a wide range of partners, including working with the French Policy Institute, the Institut Montaigne, to regain confidence in algorithms with a legal perspective in Europe.
As a part-time teaching position, he created the first Deep Learning course at Le Mans University in France and has taught it for six consecutive years. Based on his actuarial background, certified by the French Institute of Actuaries, he is responsible for the technical innovation at Axa Group worldwide. For the past nine years, he has been running and refining insurance pricing products. He is a leading expert in pricing sophistication through the discovery of new machine learning architectures and fairness enforcement.
