The Law Fund
The Law Fund at Stanford Law School provides resources for critical needs and priorities in teaching and research. It also gives law school leadership and faculty the flexibility to develop more innovative interdisciplinary and experiential learning. Simply put, without the Law Fund, students would not have a true SLS experience.
Each year, more than 1,000 alumni and friends demonstrate their commitment to SLS’s present and future through gifts to the Law Fund. These gifts of all sizes combine to make a difference in every courtyard, classroom, and curriculum at Stanford Law School:
- Experiential learning: Law Fund gifts support the policy labs and full-time clinics at SLS, defining experiences for SLS students where they solve real problems for real clients
- Financial aid: the Law Fund enables SLS’s need-blind admissions policy and commitment to provide funding to all who qualify
- Faculty: the Law Fund supports diverse and talented educators whose research influences domains that include business, global commerce, health care policy, and preserving the rule of law
- Seed funding for new programs: from the global law initiative to emerging teaching and research in AI and the law, many of SLS’s cutting-edge programs are able to flourish thanks to unrestricted dollars from the Law Fund
- Public interest and public service: Law Fund dollars support summer and post-graduate financial assistance to students and alumni committed to launching public interest or public service careers, despite the significant disparity in pay
Extraordinary Teaching and Research
Faculty are the intellectual center of Stanford Law School, and support for their teaching and research radiates throughout the entire law school community. Thanks to generous contributions, SLS is able to further strengthen scholarly inquiry and methodological diversity. With a student-faculty ratio of 4.19:1, Stanford Law School’s small size gives students the benefit of unprecedented access to the nation’s leading legal scholars.
Give to Teaching and Research : Extraordinary Teaching and ResearchClinical Education
Today, more than 60% of students participate in the hands-on learning opportunity that is The Mills Legal Clinic. We offer students 11 clinics on topics ranging from criminal defense and prosecution to intellectual property to Supreme Court litigation. Students participating in a clinic do not enroll in other classes during that quarter, giving them the opportunity to focus solely on their casework. This experience can be transformative, giving students a sense of what it means to be a practicing lawyer.

Public Service and Public Interest Law
The John and Terry Levin Center for Public Service and Public Interest Law is an important resource for all students curious about the world of public service and public interest law. In addition to being a strong advocate for public interest globally, the center is an advocate for students interested in pursuing careers in this area, providing mentorships, externships, and career services. Support for public service and public interest law at Stanford Law School helps expand these offerings, as well as events, skills trainings, and research and leadership initiatives.

Generous Financial Aid
At SLS, financial aid is more than scholarships. It is stipends for summer public interest work, loan repayment support, and post-graduate public interest fellowships. In this way, we increase prospective students’ access to a premier legal education and enable more opportunities to pursue careers that match their interests after graduation.
