Biography
Stephanie Tobosa-Smit is the Staff Attorney for the Stanford Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic. As Staff Attorney, Stephanie represents the clinic’s clients facing removal proceedings in a broad range of complex matters before the immigration courts, Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, and federal district courts. She also conducts non-litigation advocacy in partnership with community organizations.
Prior to joining the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, Stephanie worked as a Staff Attorney with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, advising circuit judge panels on the resolution of immigration-related motions and petitions for review. Before that, she was an associate attorney for an Oakland-based immigration law firm, representing clients before the immigration courts, Board of Immigration Appeals, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Stephanie began her immigration career as a Judicial Law Clerk and Attorney Advisor at the San Francisco Immigration Court, entering on duty through the Attorney General’s Honors Program.
Stephanie is also a volunteer mediator, having completed her mediation training in 2022 with The Center for Understanding in Conflict. She serves on the Alternative Dispute Resolution panel for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Stephanie is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
