In this talk, Monica Chew and Garrett Robinson give a brief overview of the tracking landscape and discuss tracking techniques and their attendant privacy concerns. They will demonstrate Lightbeam, a Firefox add-on, and show how it visualizes hidden relationships between the site you visit and tracking domains. They will then discuss future improvements to Lightbeam and ways to preserve online privacy. Audience members are invited to bring their questions and their laptops!

Monica Chew joined the security and privacy engineering team at Mozilla in 2012. Her interests include user sovereignty, tab sovereignty and contextual identity. She holds a PhD in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Music in piano performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Garrett Robinson joined the security and privacy engineering team at Mozilla in 2013. He is interested in protecting users from common attacks and enabling secure communication for everyone, to preserve the Web's unique character and incredible potential. He also works part time for the Freedom of the Press Foundation as the lead developer of SecureDrop, a tool to help journalists safely communicate with sources.
