Stanford Law School is working to confront historic harms and chart a more equitable course forward in environmental stewardship. Our students recently represented Indigenous and community groups in the California Court of Appeal in a novel challenge to California’s entrenched water rights system, which prioritizes those who claimed water first and harms those who have been historically excluded from claiming water rights. And last month, SLS honored two Indigenous environmental activists with the Bright Award. SLS students also organized and spoke on a panel on Indigenous Water Management and Advocacy.
